What’s What

Rout Now is the semi-captive manufacturing arm of Christine Whitman Designs. CWD designs and manufactures bespoke table-game pieces, primarily Mah Jongg tiles. There are myriad processes required to successfully produce a Mah Jongg tile but some of them don’t take very long. As such, we have a ton of excess capacity at many of our work centers, especially:

  • CNC Routing / Carving
  • CO2 Laser Cutting / Marking / Engraving
  • Centrifugal Barrell Polishing

We also have the saws, planers, sanders, mills, and lathes to complete 2nd operations.

Data Packages

We can work off of anything. Our order of preference would be:

  1. Electronic data file such as .dxf, .dwg, .svg (.stl if 3d)
  2. Electronic image file such as .jpeg or .png
  3. A photograph
  4. A cocktail-napkin sketch
  5. Verbal instructions
  6. Mind-reading (don’t laugh, we’ve had these clients)

  • Good – We’ve been routing a long, long time – since the time before computers when we were just the NC Department, when toolpaths were built using a calculator and a sharp pencil, when data was stored on punched tape.
  • Fast – Technology is good but until Artificial Intelligence matures somewhat, software just doesn’t generate the most efficient toolpaths – we generate the most efficient toolpaths. Experience matters.
  • Cheap – Christine Whitman Designs pays our overhead so you don’t have to!

Things To Know

We are NOT ISO Certified though we are ISO compliant. Our entire QMS is in electronic format and available to any and all. If you have internal Auditors, you’re welcome to send them here for practice.

We’ve Moved!

This was our shop in 2018. While the ‘Open Concept’ roof allowed for plenty of natural light, we kept bumping our heads on the collapsed rafters.
